Why convert EPUB to Word?
EPUB is made for reading, not editing. Changing even a single sentence normally needs a specialist ebook editor. A Word document can be edited in any word processor, with track changes and comments.
Common reasons to convert: authors who have lost the original manuscript and only have the published EPUB, editors and proofreaders who work in Word, translators, and anyone reformatting a book for print.
Text, chapters, headings, bold, italics and images convert well. Book-specific styling such as drop caps, decorative fonts and exact spacing is simplified into ordinary Word formatting.

Google Docs cannot open EPUB files directly. Convert to DOCX here, then upload the .docx to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs.
Tips for the best result
- Chapter titles become real Word headings, so you can jump between chapters in Word’s Navigation pane.
- Choose “Text only” if you just need the words, for a word count, translation or proofreading; the file will be much smaller.
- Converting a book does not change who owns it. Only edit and republish books you have the rights to.
- Only DRM-free EPUB files can be converted.
