Why convert MOBI to EPUB?
MOBI was the format Amazon used for its early Kindle devices. Amazon has since moved on to newer formats, and in 2022 Send to Kindle stopped accepting MOBI files altogether. Many readers still have libraries of DRM-free MOBI files from older downloads, and those files are becoming awkward to use.
EPUB is the open industry standard for ebooks and opens nearly everywhere. Converting your MOBI files means they will work in Apple Books, Kobo and most Android reading apps, and they can still reach a Kindle through Send to Kindle.
Text, chapters and the table of contents usually carry over cleanly. Older MOBI files tend to have simple formatting, so the EPUB will look much like the original rather than gaining fancier typography.

Tips for the best result
- Books bought from the Kindle Store usually carry DRM and cannot be converted. Read those in a Kindle app instead.
- Some old files use the .prc extension. They are MOBI files too, and this converter accepts them.
- After converting, open the EPUB and check that the table of contents works. If it is empty, convert again with “Rebuild from headings”.
- Your Kindle highlights and bookmarks are stored separately by Amazon and do not move into the EPUB.
